Lizzie Uzzell and Ali Cann, representatives our Foundation, recently visited the Alexander Devine Children’s Hospice in Maidenhead, one of the charities we have been able to provide funding to.

Alexander Devine Children’s Hospice is a charity that provides free specialist care, advice and support to children aged 0 to 19 with life-limiting and life-threatening conditions, and their families, across Berkshire, Buckinghamshire and East Hampshire.  The charity gives families a regular break from care and the practical and emotional support they need to sustain them in their role as full-time carers.  The charity also provides specialist palliative care and bereavement support to children and their families.

We were thrilled to present Tai Bishop (Lead for Corporate Partnerships) with a cheque to complete the funding for their project of the purchase of a new Acheeva Graduate chair for the hospice.

The chair will be used by children with a life-limiting or life-threatening condition who the charity support when they are visiting or staying overnight in the children’s hospice.  The chair has adjustable height, back and bed angles, providing the child with good postural support tailored to their specific needs, as well as enhancing their comfort, which will have a positive impact on their physical wellbeing. The chair will allow children and young people with limited mobility the opportunity to fully take part in all the activities on offer, making a positive impact on their quality of life.  The child can be moved easily and safely to another room in the hospice to access all the facilities available.  A comfortable seating environment and feeling fully included in the activities will increase the child’s confidence and self-esteem and enable them to engage more with staff, family and their peers.  This will have a positive impact on their emotional and social wellbeing.  Parents, carers and family will also benefit, as well as any brothers or sisters they might have.  Finally, the staff members of the Alexander’s Care Team will benefit from this project too.

It was an absolute privilege to spend time at the hospice with Tai and be shown around the amazing building, garden and facilities and to also learn about the incredible work that you do.

We look forward to hearing about the arrival of the chair and the benefits that it brings to all at the hospice.

Thank you for having us.
