In March, Lewis Jenkins, a representative from our Foundation, visited Oxford City Farm, one of our selected charities from the Autumn 2023 funding round. Nicole Titera, Farm Leader at Oxford City Farm, gave Lewis a lovely tour of the farm and the space that our funding will be going towards, providing us with insight into the project and the many opportunities it will give them and the beneficiaries.

We are supporting the development of their 'sensory kitchen garden’ project to renovate an underused area of their farm by installing wheelchair accessible paving, raised vegetable beds and a canvas sail shelter, providing them with an area where different groups can share a meal, learn about plants and grow vegetables. This will allow the charity to host more than one group at the farm at one time and provide more opportunities for the local community to access seasonal produce. Oxford City Farm is working collaboratively on this project with FarmAbility, which works in partnership with farms and growing spaces to support adults with disabilities. Together, they host a weekly session at the farm, cooking a shared lunch, undertaking gardening activities and preparing teas and cakes to host neighbouring care home residents.

Oxford City Farm is a community-led charity in the heart of East Oxford that creates empowered communities by learning and working together to produce food locally and live healthy, enriched and sustainable lives. Their aims are to increase access to seasonal produce and provide communities with opportunities to work together and build skills and knowledge about nutrition, food growing, nature and animal care.

Thank you to Oxford City Farm for allowing us to visit your space and see you during your weekly ‘Wellies & Bellies’ cooking session. We look forward to seeing the project and the impact it will have on the visitors of the site and the local community. You can find more about the organisation and their services here.
