generalWe have now successfully completed all four visits to our chosen charities from the Spring 2023 Funding Round by meeting with Hart Voluntary Action. A representative from our Foundation, Toby Thorne, met with Lindsay Graham, Service Manager for Hart and Rushmoor Young Carers, as well as volunteers Rachel Mamone and Josh Leppard, during their Senior Group Kayaking Trip at Galleon Marine Boatyard in Odiham, where they are allowed exclusive use of their boatyard and kayaks.
Hart Voluntary Action delivers a support service to anyone aged 7-25 years living in Hart and Rushmoor who cares, unpaid, for a family member who is ill, disabled, has a mental health condition, or addiction. They provide Young Carers Clubs during term time for School Years 3-6 (Junior Group), 7-10 (Senior Group), and young adult carers aged 15-25 years, as well as additional opportunities for members to attend trips, residentials, and respite activities during the school holidays, such as Kayaking in Odiham. The young adult carers also have access to 1:1 targeted support and a young leader programme, which gives them a chance to get involved in mentoring other young carers.
We are supporting their 'Young Carers Cook & Eat Programme', which will run alongside their weekly Young Carers Clubs in Farnborough and provide an opportunity for a small group of young carers to attend a 1.5-hour cooking session before club, during which they will help prepare a healthy meal for their whole group of around 20-25 young carers. This project will provide the young carers with the opportunity to learn new skills as well as a chance to socialise with individuals in a similar position to themselves.
Thank you, Hart Voluntary Action, for allowing us to visit you on your Kayaking Trip and meet some of the Young Carers who will take part in the Cook & Eat Programme. You can find out more about the organisation here.
